Lab Support, a job-placement firm for scientists and other research personnel, said it raised $1.4 million from venture-capital firms and other private investors, lifting its total capital to about $2.5 million.

Based in Woodland Hills, Lab Support provides chemists, biologists and other research specialists for temporary and permanent jobs at scientific and corporate laboratories. The company was formed in early 1986.

The three venture-capital firms providing most of Lab Support’s latest financing were Sierra Ventures and Paragon Partners, both of Menlo Park, and Enterprise Partners of Newport Beach.
