Local News in Brief : More Informative Signs Will Aid OCTD Riders

Share

County bus riders will have an easier time identifying route numbers and service frequency under a $400,000 plan approved Monday to replace the Orange County Transit District’s 6,901 bus stop signs.

The district’s board of directors unanimously approved a staff report recommending the sign replacement at a meeting Monday in Garden Grove. The staff report cited surveys indicating that “riders want additional information. . . . In order of their preference, they want route number, departure times, destination information, frequency.”

After bids are solicited and a contract awarded early next year, 7,143 new signs will be installed, more than the current number.

The OCTD staff report said most of the existing signs were intended to last only five years but have been up twice that long, and many are rusty or in disrepair.
