A 6-year-old San Diego girl died at 12:50 a.m. Monday of massive head injuries received in a car accident Sunday night, Deputy Coroner Jack Larkie said.

The accident occurred when a van, headed north on College Avenue, hit a southbound car that was turning left onto University Avenue, Sgt. Gary Gollehon said.

“The car violated the right of way of the other vehicle. The red turn lane light was apparently burned out, but the yellow and green lights were working,” Gollehon said.

Jennifer Mei Tuey was seated in the right rear of the car. She was not wearing a safety belt, Gollehon said.

Jennifer’s mother, Mei-Wah Tuey, 35, was driving the car and was uninjured. Her two other children riding in the car received minor injuries. They were taken to Villa View Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Jennifer Tuey was taken by paramedics to Sharp Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Children’s Hospital, where she died, Larkie said.
