Baldwin Park : Petition on Voting Hours

Share

Residents have presented the City Council with 160 signatures on a petition requesting that the council keep polls open an additional hour for city elections. The city’s 15 polling locations are now open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Herschel Keyser, who presented the petition to the council, said he was a poll watcher in the last election and watched as three people were turned away after 7 p.m.

“Three citizens does not seem like a lot, but if you have three citizens turned away at each of the 15 polling booths, then you have 45 citizens not voting. These 45 could decide an election,” Keyser told the council.

The council is expected to act on the matter at its Dec. 17 meeting, Mayor Leo King said.
