Sheree Woodworth, vice president of Laughlin Corp. in Rancho Cucamonga, has been elected president of the National Assn. of Women in Construction, Pomona Valley chapter. Delores Whelchel of Pomona Air Inc. was named vice president.

William Davila, chief operating officer and president of the Vons Companies, has been named Retailer of the Year by the Institute of Retail Management at California State University, Los Angeles. Davila, of Arcadia, began at Vons in the produce division 40 years ago, and has served as president since 1984.

Kamol Somvichian has been named director of International Student Services at the University of La Verne. Somvichian has received degrees from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, New York University, Columbia University and the University of London. Somvichian is a former Rockefeller Foundation and Fulbright scholar.

Audrey Chamberlain of Bradbury has been elected president of the Mid-Valley Community Mental Health Council board of directors. West Covina City Councilwoman Nancy Manners has been elected vice president and South El Monte City Councilman Jim Kelly has been elected treasurer. The council provides mental health, drug abuse and counseling services to residents in Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Duarte, El Monte, La Puente, South El Monte and West Covina.

Roy Whittemore of Tarzana has been elected to the McKinley Home for Boys board of directors in San Dimas. Whittemore recently retired as personnel director of Lawry’s Foods.

Dr. Lawrence Majovski, director of medical psychology services at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, has been named chairman of the professional advisory board of Almansor Education Center. The Alhambra-based center is a nonprofit day school and community service program for children, youths and adults with learning disabilities.

Leora Baron has been appointed director of Atid Hebrew Academy in West Covina. Baron previously served as education director at Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Ana. She is president of the Jewish Educators Assn. of Orange County.

N. Glenn Sowder of Pasadena has been named assistant administrator at Las Encinas Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital in Pasadena. Sowder received a graduate degree in social work from the University of Washington. Jack Telnack, vice president of design for Ford Motor Co., has joined the Council of Executives at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Council members are college consultants in management issues and assist in fund-raising campaigns. Telnack graduated from the college in 1958.

Jerome Spanier has been named dean of the Claremont Graduate School. Spanier has served at the school as dean of faculty and vice president of academic affairs for five years. Spanier is also a former mathematics professor at the school.

E. Howard Brooks of Claremont has been appointed to a two-year position as provost of Scripps College in Claremont. Brooks previously served as provost of the Claremont Colleges from 1971 to 1981 and vice president of Claremont College from 1979 to 1981.

Dr. Stuart Miller, a specialist in internal medicine, has been named director of the Archibald Young Health Center at Caltech. Miller is in private practice and serves on staff at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Robert Oliver of Pasadena has been appointed master of student houses at Caltech in Pasadena. In that position, Oliver will be responsible for the safety and well-being of more than 800 students living in Caltech-owned housing, on and off campus. Oliver is an economics professor at Caltech and has conducted research at the London School of Economics and at Stanford Research Institute.

Fred L. Warneke has been named chairman of the Service Corps of Retired Executives, Pomona Valley chapter. Frank Herkelrath has been named vice chairman and Alice C. Soby has been named secretary treasurer. Service Corps of Retired Executives is a part of the Small Business Administration and sponsors seminars in which retired business executives speak, share experiences and offer advice to small business managers.

Cheryl Diaz has been named intake coordinator for CPC Horizon Hospital in Pomona. Diaz received an undergraduate degree in social welfare from California State University, Long Beach and a psychiatric technician certificate from Rio Hondo College in Whittier.
