Commerce : $500 Campaign Limit Set

The Commerce City Council has imposed a $500-per-donor limit on campaign contributions to committees supporting or opposing ballot measures. The amendment to the municipal code won final approval Monday.

The amendment also requires unspent committee funds in excess of $5,000 to be returned to contributors or donated to charity. It limits total anonymous contributions to a committee for a single measure to $200.

The council last May approved an ordinance that applies the same limits to candidates for City Council.

Commerce residents will vote in April on a measure that would impose an 8% bed tax to fund public works projects, and on an advisory measure to support national health insurance.
