Whittier : Block Grant Spending Plan

Share

The Whittier City Council has approved a plan for spending $622,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds and borrowing another $1.1 million in federal money for redeveloping earthquake damaged areas.

For the fiscal year starting Jan. 1, the council approved spending $222,000 for home rehabilitation, $100,000 for improving Putnam Street, $1.1 million for land acquisition in the recently expanded redevelopment area around Uptown Village, and $200,000 to repay a loan from last year.

Last month, the council established a city loan and grant program for earthquake victims by transferring $361,000 in block grant money. That move eliminated the Putnam Street project, which the council restored in approving next year’s plan.
