Cerritos : Executive Search Begins

The ABC Unified School District Board of Education has started preliminary steps to select a new superintendent to replace Kenneth L. Moffett, whose resignation is effective March 23.

The board decided to begin soliciting proposals from executive recruiting firms, board President Catherine Grant said. The board also has scheduled a special meeting Wednesday to discuss the selection process, including ways to involve the public, Grant said.

Moffett announced his resignation late last month, a week before a new majority on the seven-member school board took office. Among the four new members elected Nov. 3 were two of the district’s harshest critics, Dixie Primosch and Jim Weisenberg who asked for a grand jury investigation of ABC last year. The grand jury found no evidence of wrongdoing or mismanagement, but did suggest that the district improve communications with parents.

Moffett said he had grown weary of the turmoil that had beset the district during his 15 months as superintendent. He said he decided to give the new board a chance to select its own superintendent.
