Backers of the Richard Nixon presidential library said they have no intention of forcing a 93-year-old widow from the home she has occupied for more than 62 years in order to include the property in a proposed library site in Yorba Linda. When she learned of plans for the library, Edith Eichler said she did not want to move. City officials said they will appraise her home, sitting on a half acre lot, and consider other options, such as moving the house to another location. But, according to City Manager Arthur Simonian, “The bottom line is we are not going to remove her from her home if she doesn’t want to go.” The city hopes to buy the entire nine-acre parcel that made up the original homestead of Nixon’s father, Francis, to “preserve the historical integrity” of the former President’s life.
