The Egyptian Al-Fayed family, which owns Harrods department store in London, snapped up almost 10% of another big British store group, Sears PLC, buying a stake in it from Australian tycoon Robert Holmes a Court. The Sears holding is worth $360 million. Sears is a major British retail group and owns another big London store, Selfridges. It has no connection with the American firm Sears, Roebuck. Sears said House of Fraser PLC, owned by the Al-Fayeds, had acquired almost 10% of the company, including Holmes a Court’s Bell Group Ltd. holding of around 8.4%.
