California Highway Patrol investigators were attempting Thursday to determine the cause of a fatal accident on the Golden State Freeway when a Canyon Country woman’s car crossed the median.
Mary McCalla, 75, drove over the center divider just south of Valencia and was killed Wednesday morning when her car hit an oncoming car, officials said.
CHP officials said the driver of the other car, Curt Miessner, 36, of Simi Valley, was not seriously injured.
McCalla was driving south on the freeway about 6:30 a.m. when her car went off the roadway and cut back across it over the center divider into Miessner’s northbound car, the officials said.
The elderly woman was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where she was pronounced dead, officials said.
