A boy who was clinically dead when pulled from icy water, stood up and walked a few shaky steps in his hospital room as his recovery continues in Fargo, N. D. Alvaro Garza Jr., 11, who spent 45 minutes beneath the Red River 10 days ago, does not know how close he came to death, his father said. “He’s walking a little bit, but I got to help him . . . “ Alvaro Garza Sr. said in a telephone interview. The father said he had been pulling the boy’s fingers and wiggling his hands to return strength to them. Alvaro, who remained in fair condition at St. Luke’s Hospital, had a body temperature of 77 degrees when he was pulled from the water Dec. 4 after falling through thin ice.
