Alabama must forfeit $253,447 in basketball receipts because it used two ineligible players in the 1987 National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Tournament, according to a decision by the NCAA’s Executive Committee.

The players were not named in the release, but Alabama Athletic Director Steve Sloan confirmed they were center Derrick McKey and guard Terry Coner.

McKey, the Southeast Conference player of the year as a junior, was declared ineligible for his senior season after his dealings with New York sports agent Norby Walters were revealed. He then entered the NBA draft and was picked in the first round by the Seattle SuperSonics. Coner also was linked to Walters, but he had already completed his senior year at Alabama.

Sloan said NCAA rules allow the Executive Committee to withhold up to 90% of a school’s share of tournament revenues, even if the school has no knowledge of player infractions.
