The Atlanta Hawks have acquired second-year forward-center Chris Washburn from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the rights to Ken Barlow, who is currently playing in Israel, the National Basketball Assn. club said Tuesday.

Washburn, 22, was the third player chosen in the 1986 NBA draft. He left North Carolina State after his sophomore season after averaging 17.6 points per game.

“Chris is a 22-year-old player of enormous potential,” said Stan Kasten, Hawk president and general manager. “He’s as gifted an athlete as one could find in a 7-footer, and he’s the type of athlete that we always want for our team.”

Washburn averaged 3.8 points in 35 games last season for the Warriors. He was averaging 4.1 points a game this year in eight games.
