William (Bill) Gold, Coroner’s Spokesman

William (Bill) Gold, 59, spokesman for the county coroner’s office during and after the tumultuous regime of Dr. Thomas Noguchi. Gold went to work for the county in 1968 after working at The Times and Los Angeles Herald Examiner. After the county Board of Supervisors began battling with Noguchi over the administration of his office, supervisors made Gold the official coroner’s spokesman. Since then he had been quoted almost daily in newspapers or on radio or television on causes of death or identity of bodies. In Los Angeles on Wednesday after a two-year fight with leukemia.
