An AvAir commuter plane lost power in an engine and crashed while trying to land at Dulles Airport in Centreville, Va., causing only minor injuries to three of the eight people aboard, authorities said. The Swearingen Metro II aircraft owned by AvAir, associated with American Airlines, was approaching Dulles when it crashed in the intersection of two streets. The plane remained intact and there was no fire, officials said. “On final approach into Dulles, it (the plane) lost power in the left engine,” said American Airlines spokesman John Raymond. “The captain radioed the tower that he was going to land in a field nearby.” Federal Aviation Administration officials were investigating the cause of the crash.
