Diahann Carroll and Vic Damone have introduced a new line of 14-karat gold Medic Alert jewelry as an alternative to the standard versions, which traditionally featured red paint to signal paramedics or other emergency medical workers of the wearer’s special health needs.
The jewelry, which identifies medical problems such as diabetes, epilepsy, severe allergies and Alzheimer’s disease through engravings on the back of bracelets and pendants, is getting its first change in its 32-year history.
Carroll and Damone, both Medic Alert ID wearers, are the foundation’s 1988 spokespersons.
According to Pat Cannedy, secretary for the communications division of Medic Alert Foundation International, the items in the new line feature simple, classic designs, with or without the red paint.
Prices range from $109 to $369, and lower-price Medic Alert jewelry starting at $20 is still sold.
