Local News in Brief : Fire Smoke Kills Woman
A Palmdale woman died of smoke inhalation early Friday when a fire apparently started by a smoldering cigarette spread through her living room, officials said.
The fire began about 2:10 a.m. and the flames were extinguished about 20 minutes later, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Van Mosley said.
Marguerita Heath, 65, who was alone inside, was pronounced dead at the scene, Mosley said.
