A 19-year-old Santee woman was ordered Friday to stand trial for murder in the death of her boyfriend, a Marine she claimed she accidentally killed as part of a scheme to get him out of the service.

Municipal Judge Robert Stahl Jr. ordered Yolanda Garcia to appear for arraignment and trial-setting on Jan. 6.

Anthony Jackson, 20, was found shot in the head Sept. 24 and died Oct. 10.

His mother, Eleanor Jackson, became visibly upset in court and trembled upon hearing a police officer describe the pool of blood found under her son’s head.

Garcia told police she fired the gun at her boyfriend, but meant to wound him in the shoulder so he could get out of the service. She claimed she closed her eyes when she fired the gun.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Denise McGuire said Garcia’s story about the alleged plot to wound her boyfriend is one of several stories she told police.
