Local News in Brief : Supremacist Rebuffed
A request by white supremacist J.B. Stoner to use a Los Angeles County meeting hall for a Valentine’s Day rally was rebuffed Friday by Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who called Stoner a purveyor of “racial and religious hatred.”
Antonovich, who had received a letter from Stoner, rejected his request that the “Crusade Against Corruption,” a white separatist group, be allowed to hold a Feb. 14 meeting in the downtown Hall of Administration.
Antonovich, who received the request while still serving as board chairman, said no such meeting room was available and warned Stoner that his “inflammatory, racist rhetoric is not welcome in Los Angeles County.”
Stoner, who was released recently from prison after serving 3 1/2 years for bombing a black church in Alabama, appeared in Glendale last month, sparking a melee between white supremacists and demonstrators protesting his visit.
In his letter to Antonovich, Stoner said he intended to spread the message that AIDS is a racial disease, a view that Antonovich denounced as untrue.
