The Dodgers have decided not to tender a contract to infielder Glenn Hoffman, making him a free agent, the team said Friday. Hoffman, 29, hit .220 in 40 games with the Dodgers after being acquired from Boston Aug. 21.

Similarly, the Angels said that Stewart Cliburn, 31, who compiled a 9-3 record and 2.09 earned-run average in 1985 before being hampered by a sore arm the last two seasons, will not be offered a contract.

In Montreal, free agent Dennis Martinez, a major surprise for the Expos last season, agreed to a two-year contract, the team announced. Martinez, 32, was 11-4 with a 3.30 ERA in 22 starts.

The Expos were reported to have offered Martinez a two-year deal worth more than $1 million.
