Motorists crossing the Golden Gate Bridge might be facing higher tolls next year. The normal toll now is $1 and $2 on Friday and Saturday. Bridge District General Manager Carney Campion said he has been told by bridge directors to recommend by Jan. 14 how to deal with a projected $6.4-million deficit. “It is not a crisis,” he said, “but we are going to give the public enough time to look at the options.” The district is financed through bridge tolls and bus fares, but recent fare increases are blamed in part for a decline in the number of bus riders. More than 24,000 vehicles cross the bridge from Marin County to San Francisco between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. each weekday, up from 21,500 five years ago.
