The Nation : 2 Teen-Agers Die in Crush After Concert

Share

About 1,000 youths surging out of a rap concert in Nashville panicked in a narrow, winding hallway, trampling to death two teen-age girls and injuring at least 29 people, police said. The melee culminated with youths pelting police and firefighters with cans of food they had brought as donations for the needy, said police Lt. Tommy Jacobs. The crowd left the concert and was moving in a hallway toward the single entrance to a charity dance in the basement of the Municipal Auditorium when some witnesses reported hearing either gunfire or a firecracker, but no evidence of either was found, Jacobs said. Brent Riley, an auditorium security guard, said the tragedy could have been prevented if more exits had been open.
