Film maker Woody Allen is thrilled with the birth of his first child, a 9-pound, 4-ounce boy named Satchel, but he said today that there is one problem--the baby “looks like Edward G. Robinson.”

Allen’s longtime love, actress Mia Farrow, 42, gave birth at 10:49 a.m. Saturday in an undisclosed Manhattan hospital, said Allen’s spokeswoman, Leslee Dart.

Allen, 51, said in a statement: “Mia’s fine. The baby is fine. The only problem is he looks like Edward G. Robinson.”

It was Allen’s first child and Farrow’s fourth. She has five other adopted children.

The baby was named Satchel Farrow in part after baseball immortal Satchel Paige, Dart said.

Friends had speculated that the name was also in tribute to jazz musician Louis (Satchmo) Armstrong, but Dart said she didn’t think so. Allen is a well-known jazz buff who holds forth on the clarinet at a jazz club every Monday night.

Farrow, previously married to Frank Sinatra and Andre Previn, is not married to Allen. They are said to live in separate apartments.
