- Conrad Sousa, longtime resident composer for the Old Globe Theatre, was in town over the weekend to hear the San Diego Men’s Chorus perform his seasonal work, “The Chanticleer’s Carol.” Though Sousa wrote the piece for men’s choir and brass ensemble in 1981 as a commission from a New York City chorus, he had never heard it in live performance.

“He was extremely pleased with our interpretation,” said San Diego Men’s Chorus director Gary Holt. “He even came back Sunday night to hear it a second time.”

Holt said the local chorus is negotiating with Sousa to undertake a commission that they would premiere at their May concert.
