The body of a homeless man, who had been known to frequent the foothill areas of Chatsworth, was found at the mouth of a cave near Chatsworth Park, Los Angeles police reported.
The dead man was identified as Robert Alan Lepre, 28, police said. He was found about 3 p.m. Monday by an unidentified man who had hiked to the cave less than a mile northwest of where Devonshire Street ends at the park, police said.
“The probable cause of death is either accident or suicide,” Detective Wayne Newton said. There was no evidence of foul play, he said.
Newton said an autopsy will be conducted. Lepre had been dead about 24 hours when his body was discovered at the front of the cave, he said. It did not appear that Lepre had been living in the cave, the detective added.
