Share

A Los Angeles travel agent who allegedly stole more than $64,000 from a group of Glendale senior citizens was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, police said.

The district attorney’s office is expected to file charges in January against Wartkes Krikor Nazarian, 58, owner of Vart Travel Agency in Hollywood.

Nazarian is suspected of stealing tour money given to him last June by 50 members of the Armenian American Council of Aging in Glendale, said Detective Dave O’Connor of the Glendale Police Department.

O’Connor said the organization paid Nazarian the money for a September tour of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic.

However, after postponing the departure date several times, Nazarian told the organization’s members he could not arrange the trip, O’Connor said.

In October, Nazarian allegedly issued the members a refund check that was not valid, police said.
