A Canadian distributor of consumer goods will acquire the Petrini’s chain of supermarkets. Frank Petrini, founder of the prestigious Northern California stores, said the agreement with Provigo Corp. of Montreal was reached with the understanding that the markets would continue to operate the same way after the transaction is completed early next year. A price was not disclosed. Provigo, a major North American distributor of food, reported net income of $65 million on sales of $6.5 billion last year.
