Workshop Offered for ‘Sandwiched’ Women

Share

Are you a member of the sandwich generation, the group we featured a couple of weeks ago in Family Life? A Mission Viejo therapist is offering a workshop for women who are caught between aging parents and growing children.

“I have been focusing on these issues in my practice and in my own life for the past few years,” said Vivian Clecak, a licensed clinical social worker and marriage, family and child counselor.

“My mother is 74 and my older daughter 13 1/2. Both are struggling with issues of independence. My mother needs to struggle to preserve her independence, and that requires my greater involvement. My daughter needs to struggle to develop her independence, and that requires my giving her some space.

“Most of the women I see are ‘superwomen’ and ultra-responsible,” she said. “We need to develop a healthy balance which affirms our personal rights as well as responsibilities.”

The workshop will be 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at 28261 Marguerite Parkway, Suite 255, in Mission Viejo. Reservations are necessary; call (714) 364-5399.
