Cerritos Council Approves Design of 8-Story Hotel

The 203-room hotel planned for Towne Center will be an eight-story, contemporary building of glass and granite. It will have a ballroom, meeting rooms, a swimming pool and a fountain. And it may well be operated by the Sheraton hotel chain.

The City Council has approved the design of the hotel, one of the main elements of Towne Center, a massive retail and office development to be built on the city’s last large tract of vacant land, across Bloomfield Avenue from City Hall.

The developer, Transpacific Development Co., is negotiating with Sheraton to run the hotel. A deal will probably be made in two or three months, a Sheraton spokesman said. Transpacific expects to break ground on the hotel and an office building in the first quarter of 1988. The hotel would be finished in the summer, 1989.
