Convicted murderer Willie Ray Wisely, whose motion for a retrial was rejected Dec. 18, is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in the 1981 killing of his stepfather, Robert Bray. Acting as his own attorney, Wisely has successfully delayed sentencing since his conviction in 1982, but now faces life imprisonment without possibility of parole.

Wisely, 34, has spent more than six years in Orange County Jail. His notoriety as a jailhouse lawyer grew earlier this year when it was discovered that he had married law clerk Gail Marie Harrington in a secret ceremony Christmas Eve, 1986. Harrington had been helping Wisely in his legal efforts.
