The State : Couple Thank Supporters

Share

A woman who wanted her deformed baby’s organs donated for use in transplants was discharged from Loma Linda University Medical Center, two days after the girl was delivered stillborn. “To all of the people in the world who support us and have been so kind, we thank you,” Michael Winner, a 29-year-old utility worker, said as his wife, Brenda, 30, left the hospital near San Bernardino. “To everyone who has been in a similar situation, we are with you.” The Arcadia couple knew through an ultrasound test in August that their then-unborn baby suffered anencephaly, in which most of the brain is missing. Anencephalic infants die within days to weeks of birth. The Winners wanted the child, a girl named Jarren, to be delivered, then maintained on life support until brain-death was declared so the infant’s organs could be donated to save other infants.
