Local News in Brief : Salvation Army Center Feeds 425 Over 2 Days
The Salvation Army Corps, which traditionally feeds the needy Sunday evenings in the San Fernando Valley, opened its doors Saturday to 225 people trying to escape the cold, Salvation Army Capt. John Purdell said.
Until Saturday, dinners at the corps’ center in Van Nuys drew a maximum of 125 people, Purdell said. The Salvation Army also housed 48 homeless people Saturday and sent 55 to a nearby motel.
On Sunday, the regularly scheduled dinner brought about 200 people, and 20 homeless people were given shelter, officials said.
