California State Bar Assn. President Terry Anderlini of San Mateo angrily responded Wednesday to the “Getting Even” segment of “60 Minutes”’ Sunday night program, which profiled a lawyer who handles legal malpractice cases. Anderlini described the segment as a misrepresentation of the vast majority of California lawyers and irresponsible journalism. “It is indeed unfortunate that the honest and competent men and women of the California legal profession have been unfairly maligned by shoddy TV reporting,” Anderlini thundered in a statment released Wednesday. “Contrary to the grossly exaggerated overstatements of ’60 Minutes’ commentator Morley Safer, the vast majority of California lawyers are honest, hard-working, competent professionals who do not cheat their clients or commit malpractice.” Safer and “60 Minutes” producers are on vacation this week and unavailable for comment.
