Pasadena : A Final Message of Love
A Torrance man is planning to offer a poignant message to his late wife on New Year’s Day when a plane skywrites the message, “Goodby Beryl,” over the Rose Parade.
The message is a tribute to Beryl Brian from her husband of 41 years, Jack Brian, and daughter Jacqui Brian, 23. Beryl Brian died Oct. 10 of breast cancer at age 61.
Brian, a 61-year-old retired engineer, said he got the idea for the message as he and his daughter were driving home from the hospital the morning his wife died and saw a plane skywrite the letter “J.”
“We felt that Beryl was telling us that she was still watching over us, so we thought we would return the message,” Brian said.
“I never had a chance to say goodby because Beryl thought she was going to live,” he added. “I did so much want to take her in my arms and tell her how grateful I was for our 40-year adventure together. But I couldn’t say it because she was still fighting for her life.”
