ALCOHOL-RELATED ACCIDENTS IN ORANGE COUNTY

In 1986 Orange County was among the top five in the number of alcohol-related traffic deaths and injuries in California, continuing a trend it has maintained in each of the past five years.

Out of 2,232 alcohol-related accidents statewide in 1986, Orange County had the third highest number with 143, placing it behind San Diego (193) and Los Angeles (452) counties. Orange County was also third in the number of alcohol-involved injury accidents, with 3,729 out of 44,303, compared with San Diego (3,758) and Los Angeles (12,072).

A total of 2,543 people died statewide in alcohol-involved accidents. Orange County had 155 of these fatalities ranking it fourth behind San Bernardino (157), San Diego (211) and Los Angeles (504) counties. The county had the second highest number of alcohol-related injuries with 5,833 out of the sate’s 69,876; Los Angeles County had the highest number of injuries, with 19,485.
