Rap star L.L. Cool J’s New Year’s Eve concert at the Hollywood Palladium came off without any reported incidents of violence.

An estimated 2,800 persons attended the event, the first rap concert at the Palladium following one last November that was marred by fights among suspected gang members. Capacity for an event at the Hollywood facility is 4,400.

“As far as I’m concerned, it was a rousing success . . . we didn’t have any fights,” said Ron Mohr , an employee of CEM Security Service, one of two security firms hired to police the event. Eighty security personnel were at the New Year’s event.

However, there were isolated incidents on the dance floor. At one point a youth ran through the crowd spraying champagne on the crowd. Roving crews of yellow- and orange-shirted security guards quickly eased tempers.
