The State : Speeds to Rise on More Roads

Share

The federal government is letting California raise the speed limit to 65 m.p.h. on another 260 miles of freeways, Caltrans said. California already permits 65 m.p.h. on about 1,200 miles of rural interstate highways. But the new permission covers non-interstate highways whose engineering and safety standards resemble those of interstates. The principal segments in line for the increase are 126 miles of California 99 between Fresno and Bakersfield, and a section of U.S. 101 in Ventura County.
