Yves Montand has been named the honoree for this year’s annual tribute by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, sponsor of the New York Film Festival, for “outstanding lifetime contribution to the art of cinema,” it was announced Monday. The formal presentation--a major source of revenue for the Film Society--is scheduled to be held in New York at Lincoln Center on April 25, with Montand expected to be in attendance. Montand and his long international film career have been back in the limelight in the past year, with the release of Claude Berri’s “Jean de Florette” and its sequel, “Manon of the Spring.” The films’ distributor, Orion Classics, has mounted a campaign aimed at gaining an Oscar nomination for Montand as best actor for his performances in both films.
