Severe Winds Batter Britain, 2 People Killed
Winds gusting up to 85 m.p.h. across Britain killed two people and caused severe flooding and damage today.
A motorcyclist was decapitated when he was blown into a tree in western England and a 64-year-old fisherman was drowned off Blackpool in northwestern England.
Power cables, trees and shop windows were ripped out throughout southern Wales and vehicles were overturned.
Many roads in southern England were flooded after torrential rain, thunder and hail swept across Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and Surrey.
Channel ferry traffic was delayed because of rough seas and winds gusting up to 70 m.p.h.
Last October, Britain’s worst storm in 300 years killed 13 people and devastated the countryside, felling hundreds of thousands of trees and cutting power supplies to more than half a million people.
