Stormy seas frustrated Chilean naval efforts to salvage a foundering Christian evangelical library ship, the 2,319-ton Logos, before it breaks apart and spills its fuel into the Beagle Channel at the southern tip of South America. The ship’s 139 passengers and crew were evacuated safely to Puerto Williams after the Logos ran aground during a night passage. The Chilean navy blamed the accident on the negligence of Argentine channel pilots, who normally guide vessels through the straits between Argentina and Chile.
