Traffic Signals
I have long suspected the machinery of government--and those who run it--of being incompetent, inefficient, impractical and, at its worst, completely corrupt. But the traffic light story goes beyond even my wildest fears.
It is inconceivable to me that some bozo is just now proposing a plan for coordinating the traffic lights in L.A. County; a plan, by the way, which will take five years to complete.
It is unthinkable that in a community that is more dependent on the automobile than virtually any other in the country, it has never occurred to anyone to coordinate the traffic lights. That would be like saying: “From now on, if you’re gonna sky-dive, check to see if you have a parachute.”
It seems to me, therefore, only fair that anyone who is now or has ever been connected with the Transportation Department of Los Angeles County should be burned at the stake in a public ceremony. The exact time could be agreed upon later.
Let’s face it, you got to make a stand somewhere.
