Local News in Brief : Type O Shortage Remains

Share

The shortage in blood inventories in Los Angeles County has stabilized but is still critical for Type O blood, Red Cross officials said Friday.

Hospital inventories in Type O, officials said, are at less than 40% of desired levels, with Red Cross supplies at less than 30%.

Dr. Carroll Spurling, executive director of the American Red Cross Blood Services, Los Angeles/Orange Counties Region, said more Southland donors have been showing up to give blood. Wednesday’s final statistics indicate a 23% increase in donations, officials said. But they said a continued supply over the weekend and into next week is critical if the present shortage is to be erased.
