Lemon Grove
Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were investigating the stabbing death of an 85-year-old retired Marine officer who was found in his Lemon Grove home Thursday.
The body of Hugh Henry Mathews was found about 10 a.m. in the rear of his home on Amber Place by a neighbor who routinely checked on the elderly man, authorities said.
A sheriff’s spokeswoman said there are no suspects in the apparent homicide.
“The home did not appear to be ransacked,” sheriff’s Lt. Bill Baxter said.
Deputy Coroner Dan Matticks said Mathews died of multiple stab wounds.
