The State : High Pesticide Levels Found

Banned pesticides like DDT and dieldrin have accumulated at high levels in the sediments of the San Joaquin River and its western tributaries that are serving as drains for agricultural waste water, according to a new U.S. Geological Survey report. The study said some form of the DDT compounds, which do not dissolve readily, was detected at all 24 test sites and dieldrin was found at 58% of the sites. DDT was banned in 1972.
