Cochrane Chase, Livingston & Co., one of the largest advertising agencies in Orange County, said Tuesday that it added seven accounts in December worth more than $10 million a year.

Cochrane Chase’s new accounts are the Long Beach Press-Telegram, Lamps Plus in Chatsworth, American Senior Inns in Irvine, Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, Carrier Southern California in Industry, Peripheral Systems in Van Nuys, and Spinco, a division of Beckman Instruments in Irvine.

The accounts mark a positive ending to a year in which the agency lost two large accounts and laid off some of its staff.

Lucky Stores’ Southern California Food Division, a $12-million account, and Epson America, reportedly worth $5 million in annual billings, left the agency last winter.

The agency’s staff was reportedly trimmed to about 90 by laying off 17 people in September. Now, the agency has a staff of 97 and the new accounts could mean additional workers, but no hiring plans have been announced, according to spokesman Jack Gerken.

Cochrane Chase has offices in Newport Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego, and reported billings of $69 million for the 12 months ending Oct. 31, 1986.
