‘Reagan Recants’
Regarding Daniel Schorr’s article “Reagan Recants” (Op-Ed Page, Jan. 3), it is Schorr and people like him should be recanting. There is ample documentation available to anyone who wishes to research or recall President Reagan’s policy statements vis-a-vis the Euromissiles. The policy was then the zero-zero option. The Soviets and the peace movement here and abroad called this policy the policy of a maniac. After being abused by these “peace lovers” to no end, along comes Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and accepts the Reagan plan after recognizing it for what it is--a sensible way to start the disarmament process. And who gets the credit--anyone but Reagan. And who is to recant?
