It turns out there was no long-lasting curiosity among renters about the bomb of last year, “Ishtar”--the Warren Beatty-Dustin Hoffman comedy. After leaping into the Top 10 of the Billboard magazine pop chart, it peaked quickly and is on the decline--dropping six notches to No. 21. “House II--the Second Story” is the hot new horror movie, climbing to No. 18 in two weeks. “Roxanne” (No. 2) should unseat “Lethal Weapon” as the No. 1 rental but “Dirty Dancing,” which should appear on the chart in the next two weeks, just might sneak up there first. After nearly four months on the chart, “Raising Arizona” is still a popular rental (No. 10). The presence of costar Holly Hunter, an instant star because of her performance in “Broadcast News,” is undoubtedly boosting “Arizona” rentals. “Lady and the Tramp” is still No. 1 on the sales chart, which measures sales to retailers and distributors.

* This English espionage drama didn’t figure to do exceptional rental business but it’s off to a fast start, jumping to No. 8 in its third week on the chart. Its big selling points: star Michael Caine and the fact that it’s based on a Frederick Forsyth novel.
