A plurality of America’s chief executives believes that George Bush will be elected President this year, although personally they can’t decide between the vice president and rival Republican Sen. Robert Dole, a poll said. In addition, about 41% of the 609 CEOs questioned in the Business Month magazine poll also believed that there was a less than 50% chance that a Democrat would make it to the White House in 1988. The poll was conducted around the time of the Oct. 19 stock market crash by Yankelovich Clancy Shulman. About 43% said Bush would likely win the presidential election, while 23% thought Dole would succeed and 8% picked New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, a Democrat who has not entered the race. The Democrat most chosen by the CEOs was Sen. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.), who received 3% of their support and who also is not a candidate.
