An 18-year-old who had been suspected of being a gunman in a gang-related shooting near George Washington Preparatory High School has been released without being charged, sheriff’s authorities said Wednesday..

Sheriff’s investigators said there was insufficient evidence against Damon Lee, 18, who had been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Lee and a juvenile were arrested Tuesday after three female students at the high school suffered minor injuries in the cross fire of a gang-related shooting near the South-Central Los Angeles campus. The juvenile will be prosecuted, and sheriff’s investigators Wednesday arrested a second juvenile on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, said Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Denis of the Lennox substation.
